At 11PM EDT...Hurricane Ike had top sustained winds of 115mph with higher gusts. Ike is a major hurricane Category III status. Ike is just about 350 miles east of the eastern Bahamas, and continues to move west-southwest. Ike could pass just over or south of the Florida Keys by Tuesday or Wednesday.
After that, Ike will move into the Gulf and continue west-northwestward. Once it enters the Gulf, Ike will be in an environment for low wind sheer, so it could obtain Category 4 status again.
